When we were children, my brother Tom drew cartoon style scenes in black ink. I remember intricate drawings of crowds in the Rome Forum, classic automobiles, and simple objects beautifully rendered. He continued through his adult life working as an illustrator. I tried to follow his example, but never reached the perfection he had attained. I dabbled with ink and dip pen drawing cartoons but never achieved the result I wanted until... Artist Uma Kelkar introduced me to the brush pen and my cartoon career took off. In the beginning, I drew cartoons on paper, scanned them, and added color with a vector graphics editor, "Inkscape." I began adding details with a computer mouse and relied less on the inked page. I pulled out a Wacom drawing tablet that I had bought used several years ago and abandoned ink and paper altogether. I came across a drawing program "Clip Studio Paint" online and tried it out with the free trial. It was almost overwhelming with features in the beginning. I kept experimenting with it and found many advantages for my drawing style. I purchased it on sale and continued to learn how to use it. There many CSP tutorials online. Now I use "Clip Studio Paint" with a Wacom tablet and their "Tabmate" controller, which eliminates many keystrokes. I recommend it to both fine artists and illustrators.
